Verizon Getting the iPhone - Will It Ever Happen??

The iPhone. Just about everyone has used, or at least seen one. It seems that, since its release in 2007, the iPhone is just about everywhere. And the question that is plaguing many of us is whether AT&T will remain the sole wireless carrier for the iPhone?

There has been talk of an eventual Verizon release date; a conversation that has extended throughout the past two and a half years with no final answer in sight. With Apple's release of the iPhone 4, and no mention on a Verizon release date, it leaves you wondering: will it ever happen?

There are reports that Apple is not likely to make more than one model of the iPhone, and since AT&T's model uses Global Systems for Mobile (GSM), and Verizon requires a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), the chances are unlikely (US News Week cites). Despite this point, there are reports that Verizon may make the move to a newer and faster standard, which may then allow for Apple to provide both AT&T and Verizon with the same model of the iPhone, so that more subscribers will then have access.

It seems sort of inevitable that the iPhone will soon be available via both wireless carriers, as the phone has been in such high demand since its release. Only time will tell, but the answer to this burning question could mean many happy Verizon customers, and an AT&T with some new competition!!
